Hesperornis

Genus of extinct marine diving birds from the Cretaceous, over 2 m/6.5 ft long, with rudimentary wings and a broad tail of moderate length; the sternum (breast bone) is broad and unkeeled, suggesting that they were unable to fly. The head was small, with elongated jaws possibly with recurved teeth set in grooves.
